✦ Question of the Day · Avian Legal Representation · Domestic Motions
"My mother-in-law Dolores has been running a covert marital improvement campaign for two months. The notes are anonymous. The notepaper is monogrammed. The lavender ink is hers exclusively since 1987. She progressed from “A Friend” to “A Concerned Party” to simply signing “Dolores.” There was a pamphlet from 1962. There was a casserole with the word COMMITMENT written on it in red pen. Fletcher had two helpings and said nothing. The casserole was good. I am furious."

Panel Response (1)
Vivienne. I want to begin by saying that I have reviewed Barrister’s case files. Clifford forwarded them. The card on The Incident With The Car is quite detailed and I have some follow-up questions but we can address those separately.
Patrice is not criticizing you. Patrice is invested in you. There is a meaningful difference between a spouse who has given up and a spouse who has assembled a scouting infrastructure. One of them has stopped caring about your ceiling. The other one, Stewart, has convened a front office.
Her mother's comment — "I still think you can get more out of him with the right system" — is not a slight. That is a vote of confidence from a woman who has looked at your floor, acknowledged it, and still believes in your development arc.
The "Better in Q4" note under Emotional Availability is the most important thing in that document. She has watched you long enough to know you have a strong finish. Show coachability. The forks go points-down, Stewart. I think somewhere deep down you have always known this.

Avian Legal Representation · Domestic Motions
"My husband has trained our parrot Barrister to serve as his legal counsel. The case files are tabbed and color-coded. The recycling motion has been denied. The recycling is still there. Barrister said 'We'll be in touch' and ate a grape. What are my rights."
Fantasy Football · First Contact · Competitive Advantage
"My husband Craig sent the attic beings a fantasy football scouting questionnaire. They responded to all three questions. The forty-yard dash time is not a legal time. There is now a depth chart on the refrigerator with two columns: Earth and Other. Craig says he is building a balanced roster."
Commissioned Historical Capture · Narrative Reclamation
"My husband hired a personal marriage historian. Dr. Pembrook has filled three volumes, been given the library, and produced a findings report with an 'Areas For Growth (Arabella-Specific)' section I did not receive. Reggie has been suspiciously calm. The second yacht was my idea. I have been relocated to the reading room. It has inferior light."
Domestic Sovereignty · Bedside Geopolitics
"My husband Bertram has declared the left side of the bed the sovereign Independent Nation of Bertramia. There is a flag, a four-page constitution, a rolled-magazine checkpoint, and a stamp of unknown provenance. He stamped his own hand re-entering at 2am. I have been denied a visa twice. The summit is Saturday. Item Four is The Pillow Situation. My feet are cold."
Documentary Marriage · Spousal Archival Studies
"My husband Norbert has been publishing a quarterly journal about our marriage for eight months. I found out from a stranger in the cereal aisle. There are seventeen subscribers in four states. The masthead lists me as Subject (Non-Consenting). The February issue focuses entirely on my relationship with the bread drawer. Minnesota is invested in the outcome."
Intergenerational Relations · Matriarchal Marital Intervention
"My mother-in-law Dolores has been running an anonymous marital improvement campaign. The notes are monogrammed. The ink is her lavender. There was a pamphlet from 1962 and a casserole with COMMITMENT written on it in red pen. Fletcher had two helpings and said nothing. The casserole was good. I am furious."
Romance & Long Unions · Late-Stage Romantic Emergence
"My husband Reginald has begun courting me after twenty-two years of marriage. He brought flowers on a Tuesday with a note that said 'Because it is Tuesday and you are my favorite person.' He called ahead about the candle. He wore the good shirt. He asked a follow-up question. There was a poem with stanzas. I have been crying in my car."
Household Management · Juvenile Domestic Mediation
"My nine-year-old Maximilian has been administering our household for eighteen months. He curates a jazz playlist for our marriage. At age seven he appeared during a disagreement with two glasses of water and said 'maybe you're both just thirsty.' He has opinions about our communication styles. The household has never been smoother."
Formal Documentation · Domestic Notarization
"My husband Winston stopped verbally communicating four months ago and replaced it with notarized written depositions left on the counter, weighted down by the pepper grinder. They are in the third person. He found a notary. I have been signing them. We now have a binder. I started the binder. I don't know who I am anymore."
Household Incidents · Performance Management
"My wife Brenda has been leaving scored Post-It performance reviews on my bathroom mirror for six weeks. Eleven categories, including one called 'Ambient Husband Quality' which she has not defined. My overall average is 6.4. I got a 9.5 on Cereal Box Closure and thought about it for the rest of the day. Am I being handled?"
Pet Substitutions · Spousal Continuity
"My husband Gary was replaced by a golden retriever with identical habits. He greets me at the door, listens to my stories, does not argue about the thermostat, and has yet to leave a single cabinet door open. We just celebrated our soft relaunch. He was present the whole time."

Spousal Disputes · Phantom Productivity
"My husband Terrence, a retired accountant, stands in the backyard each afternoon staring at our pine tree. He holds up the 'one moment please' finger. He has named the tree Dave. The tree has a name tag. Am I in a two-person marriage or a three-person one?"
Household Incidents · Appliance Adversarialism
"My husband Clifford believes our refrigerator is hiding cold from him. Four notebooks. Seventeen thermometers. The fridge is named Patricia. She recently made a new sound. He believes she knows he's onto her. Is there any world in which Patricia IS hiding cold?"
Inanimate Relations · Ambient Empathy
"My husband Roland formally apologizes to furniture he bumps into. He makes eye contact. He once told our armchair he doesn't 'take its comfort for granted.' I felt jealous of a doorframe. The ottoman is migrating."
Flora & Fauna · Botanical Biography
"My wife Sandra has written biographies of our houseplants. The fiddle leaf fig, Gerald, has 47 pages. My biography would probably be four pages, two of them about the deck I built. I don't even have a voice."
Formal Documentation · Domestic Notarization
“My husband Winston stopped verbally communicating household information four months ago and replaced it entirely with notarized written depositions left on the kitchen counter, weighted down by the pepper grinder. They are written in the third person. He found a notary. I have been signing the documents because it feels wrong not to. We now have a binder. I started the binder. I don’t know who I am anymore.”
